Working across a variety of clients at different stages of their tax return, e.g. planning, to drafting, to updating, and to submission. Talking to the team, getting to know different people's specialities and getting opportunities to explore that field of tax. Lots of client and team wide interaction to obtain information.
Absolutely! I've been able to develop my soft skills, such as communication, time management, and teamwork skills. But most importantly, my technical skills. I've been fortunate with my team who are constantly teaching me new stuff. Despite them being very busy, they often will spend over an hour on call or in person teaching me about things that are relevant to my role, e.g. gift relief, tax calculations, as well as how to speak to clients.
I enjoy it a lot. Straight away I felt part of the team by the way I was treated. I was constantly being encouraged to be involved with things, and there was plenty of opportunity for me to do that. Additionally, the team I work with are great, a nice wide variety of work, and I feel like i'm constantly growing.
It is decently structured. Without experiencing other structures, its hard to find the comparison point. But from my point of view, I understand when I'm going to learn by technical skills (via exams) and where I'm expected to be by certain stages.
More than enough. Trainee support is there whenever I have a question. My manager and my team's two partners are always there whenever I require help, whether that is with Kaplan, or internally, such as involving my with fun new work.
A solid amount. Kaplan provides plenty of learning material which goes into detail, helping me understand the concept easier. The tutors are also great at explaining and keeping us engaged.
I've been able to better understand key concepts in my work. For example, I'm currently sitting the personal and business tax exam, which has helped me understand capital allowances more thoroughly.
There are lots of professional networking events that happen, for example during lunch. There are also social activities, for example, we recently did a game day where we played The Traitors, as well as going to the F1 arcade.
Yes
Its a company that supports you, whether that is professionally, but also personally. The work-life balance is always great. I never have to do overtime and the flexibility is really good. The people are nice and very helpful, and the atmosphere is one that encourages growth.
Be yourself.
