I head up the Operations function that manages the welfare of animals in RSPCA care. Licensing premises, setting standards of care, monitoring welfare and arranging onward movement of animals so that they can be rehabilitated and rehomed.
I have learnt new skills around global trade and business issues as well as developing my personal skill set and enhancing my interpersonal skills.
It is a really well developed programme which covers the key aspects of leadership and management including strategy and sustainability.
the programme is well constructed and thoughtfully put together
I have lots of opportunity to put my learning into practice and a fabulous mentor who is extremely supportive and interested in my personal and professional development.
There is a network of support available and we are also encouraged to work collaboratively with other students. We have a class rep and the support at the university responds quickly and supportively when approached.
I am constantly utilising the tools and techniques that I have learnt and sharing this knowledge with my colleagues. This has definitely enabled me to develop and to seek out feedback and work on it.
I undertake mentoring but since I work far away from many of my colleagues I don't take part in social activities. We do however have opportunities to socialise when we have leadership events and meetings. I really enjoy these and make the most of them.
Yes
The RSPCA is a forward thinking and progressive organisation that is purpose driven and supports each other to achieve the best for animal welfare but also for the people that work for this organisation. it is as much about people as it is animals. The culture is inspirational and we are working towards a learning environment where knowledge is shared and celebrated. It is fabulous to work for such a worthy cause and to be supported in my own personal development journey.
Research the role and the organisation and be prepared for a challenging but rewarding career.
