  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role involves working on the shop floor to replenish stock and help customers, I also have to do other management tasks. Such as doing test trolleys, signing off paperwork and other things such as reducing stock due to there use by dates.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned lots of new skills such as how to use all different types of equipment, for example the bailor and pump trucks. I have also become more confident and can now understand how to deal with customers in a professional manner.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working on the shop floor and helping out customers and members of staff. However I don't find as much enjoyment In the theory side of the apprenticeship, this is due to the lack of it not being very engaging and tasks that don't feel relatable to my job role. The theory work is very forgettable and relies on you teaching yourself things through constant reading and short videos.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I was told it would follow a set program however my second year was delayed from starting. My lifetime coach has also been changed 4 times over the course of my apprenticeship, and each one has been based far from me which makes it difficult to have progress reviews and for them to check in on me. Everything In store is run very well and I feel taken care of and i'm learning new things all the time but this is brought down by the theory side of the apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from all members of Aldi staff who are keen to teach my new things and are very welcoming. I have been put in a really good team at my store which is very helpful to enjoy work and makes me eager to work harder.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel like there is a lack of support from the Aptem coaches which makes it very difficult to stay motivated and want to complete tasks on time. Due to me switching coaches throughout my course it has been difficult to build a bond with them which I feel is crucial to keep students engaged and eager to do well.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It motivates me to want to complete the course as the end goal will be very rewarding and will help me to further my career and sets me up very well. However due to the recent news of deputy manager pay being cut due to salary managers staying for longer hours, it is hard to tell if this course will be rewarding in the long run.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Aldi is very a welcoming and friendly place to work, ever since I started I have felt supported through my team. It was very easy to make friends and I have become close with quite a few members of staff. I sometimes go out with these friends and do activities such as days out.

    10/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would suggest working at Aldi as they really do have a lot to offer, the pay is very good and well deserved. The colleges I have really make it really easy to work. However the apprenticeship side of the job is very difficult to be motivated and stay on track, the off the job hours seem unreasonable at 300 hours each year due to the fact that you can only learn so much.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • I would warn them that the theory side is a lot of work in which you have to self teach yourself. If they were applying for a normal job role such as store assistant or management position i would highly recommended it.
