  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • This involves shadowing and learning around different areas within BBC NI. These areas include post-production and news package editing, graphics, audio, cameras, vision mixing etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new skills, such as using new software applications, including Photoshop, After Effects, Avid Media Composer. I have also learnt how to use the internal BBC systems provided through the Intranet, as well as developed existing skills, such as IT and communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed all aspects of my role so far in the areas I have shadowed in. I also enjoy meeting new people, as well as learning more about the organisation.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has a good structure, however, it can be hard to know how to do certain tasks regarding log work, as well as answering questions correctly using the information provided.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have recently received support from my employer, surrounding the balance between work, as well as course provider tasks.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have recently received support from my course provider, surrounding the log work and the completion of assignments, which is a personal core focus.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think the training I have received from the course provider has provided me with a good foundation of knowledge surrounding the various aspects of the industry. In addition, I have applied some of this knowledge in my role and hope to demonstrate this more throughout the course.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have participated in a Christian Fellowship group within the BBC, in which we join weekly virtual meetings. This provides the opportunity to meet other people who share the same interests, as well as provide support to each other.

  • Yes

  • I think overall, the BBC provides excellent career progression.

  • Try your best and demonstrate your passion and ability, as well as knowledge. In addition, try to be a helpful person and have tolerance, as well as respect for everyone you meet.
