I work in global compliance and reporting and specialise in corporation tax. We prepare tax computations to help companies file their returns to HMRC and ensure they are complying with relevant tax laws, giving advice where necessary. We also perform tax audits at year end , reviewing tax workings they have prepared
I have learnt so much. I’ve learnt about how companies can save money paying tax and the different techniques that they use to minimise tax impact. I’ve learnt about companies overall and how the structured, how they work, the reporting chain. I have learnt about the different types of companies, i.e. management, service et cetera The list goes on..
I enjoy the program thoroughly , it has provided me sufficient time to focus on my exams to qualify as a chartered accountant and also has provided me enough time in the office to double in the real work. At first it was quite intimidating as a school leaver coming into the office, however I have built a good relationship with my colleagues and can always count on them to help me, teach me and guide me to become more successful and knowledgeable.
Very structured as we have set number of exams we have to complete every year, prior to our exam sitting, we are given the privilege to go to an accounting tuition provider who teaches us to content for our exams two months in advance. This way we have sufficient time to revise and do client work in the office
I receive a lot of support. We are given a counsellor who is available at all times to help us when we are in need or unsure about something. This includes anything but not limited to mental health well-being work problems et cetera . I find this concept very helpful.
A lot of support . 2/3 months prior to an exam we are booked in to go attend college with other accountant trainees where we learn the content for our exams and practice questions very much like a classroom.. the teachers are very well experienced and help me a lot when I struggle to understand something
What we learn in our exams prove vital to the work we perform in the office every day. It has definitely given me more confidence to approach more difficult and challenging tasks at work given that I have been already learning it in college. This has definitely boosted my knowledge.
There are so many EY societies such as Boxing, badminton, yoga, football netball, basketball, I regularly attend Boxing and it has definitely helped me with my mental health it has also given me the opportunity to meet other fellow employees of EY. we also have socials to reward us for the hard work we put in.
Yes
EY a great place to work and provide so many great opportunities for aspiring and qualified accountants. Being in the big four accountancy firms in the world is inevitably going to bring stress and challenges to you, however it all definitely pays off in the end. I’m so happy to be an employee at EY.
Give it to your all in all stages of the recruitment process. Be yourself, be happy and be charismatic in your interviews as EY does not only care about how sharp you are but the impact you have on your surroundings, it is not only important to be good at something but also be approachable and someone who is easy to work with.
