As a senior support worker I oversee the running of day to day shifts in a busy 15 bedroomed residential support house where I administer medication, complete audits, complete financial checks, support my team to provide person centred care to our service users. Complete management tasks as required.
I learnt lots of new skills during my apprenticeship as I was promoted from support worker to senior support worker and pushed to learn new skills such as submitting Dols authorisation and also submitting a safeguarding for a service user that I look after and also attending lots of meetings with management.
It was a long time programme as I transferred over from a previous provider and had to complete my functional skills Maths with support from a tutor. I did not receive the correct support from my employer due to miscommunication and busy schedules meaning I had limited time to complete my modules during work time and was doing some of my work during my time away from work.
When i came over from the previous provider it took me a while to get used to the new set up and I feel this could have been done with more support but once I got the hang of it then it was just right for me.
My employer was supportive when i reached out for the help and was allocated time while on shift to complete the modules as i was struggling to get any of this done during my time at work. I also had to complete Maths sessions for revision and other Teams meetings whilst at home.
My training provider again was hit and miss with communication and i did struggle with this. I felt it was all or nothing and this was difficult to juggle along with my job and home life.
Now that i have been promoted to senior support worker i am finding that the qualification gives me more knowledge in the role i am doing and how best i can support my team to achieve person centred care for all our service users and that i feel stronger in my skills in my ability to support management.
No but we are trying to have team building days.
Yes
I have worked for Priory for now 7 years almost and it is the most rewarding job that i have ever had and i am constantly thinking of ways to help my service users better and how i can make sure i am living up to Priory's values and expectations.
Work hard, strive for excellence and develop yourself to be the best person you can to help people we support to have the best quality of care and help them to live their lives the best way that they can.
