  • Basic QS skills such as tracking labour costs and checking invoices against our timesheets. Drafting requisitions for material and subcontract orders.

  • Yes - I knew nothing about construction or quantity surveying when I started, so everything I've learned has been brand new, even basic excel skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme, but at times I would like to have more to do and some days can be a bit slow.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think it is well structured and the process we go to from Level 4 to Level 6 has been clearly explained, as well as having plenty of connections to apprentices in other years for support.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support from my site team is brilliant, I think the support from the early careers team could be better.

  • Whilst attending college, the lecturers are helpful and attentive.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it helps by understanding the theory of the job before going into the practical side of it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, our site do 5 a-side football every Thursday at a local pitch, as well as plenty of social and networking events that people are encouraged to get involved in.

  • Yes

  • It is a great company to work for with a giant support network and a large range of benefits that will assist you in working towards a professional qualification.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • Be prepared to move away from home as some of the best projects won't be on your doorstep.
