My job title is Technician Engineer. I work as a design technician for a department within the manufacturing facility, Explore Manufacturing. I design products that will be put into manufacture for use on all Laing O'Rourke sites. This involves collating design information from the various design teams involved in the project. Mr responsibility is to ensure that we have the correct information and the product is design and detailed to a high standard. The buildability is important and because of this I have to enusre that the product can be both manufacture and put into use on site.
I have gained many new skills such as a wide range of construction knowledge, advanced skills in CAD, buisness skills, time managment, project managment, and many more. I have attended many training course such as accident investigation, CAD courses, IOSH health and saftey course, and many more.
The cadet programme offers a fantstic opportunity to anyone wanting to have a job whilst studying for a degree. The amount of development and investment I recieve is incredible. The oppotunities available to me have met my expectations.
I feel I personally recieve a lot of appriciation from my manager at present and I have, in the past, had praise from higher levels of management. The recognition I have recieved from this is having people ask you to perform taks that may be complex. Overall I do feel valued within my department and within LOR as a whole.
The programme is very well organised and structured with clear objectives and constant streams of contact should anything be unclear.
Our cadet manager does invest a lot of time in us and would be more than ahppy to help us with any problems we may have.
I have a great supporting relationship with my manager and he understands my needs to also complete task relating to the programe and not just my work function. There is plenty of support available.
My current salary is good for my age. It does cover my living costs relative to where I live, if a little tight.
There are many compant events that are on offer at where I work such as bowling, football, nights out, volunteering, company events and activities.
Yes
I would recommend LOR as they offer a comprehensive development programme with increasing salary and benefits. This enables you to start a career straight from sixth form whilst still studying for a degree. As a company I feel they invest in you and push to put you through chartership and offer opportunities to develop a career.
I would recommend to anyone applying to research about the company and the behaviours and attitude they look for.
