I spent the first 6 months of my apprenticeship going around the business learning every aspect of the job, not just the job that I will be doing but all the process that are involved. My role is to install and service the virgin media equipment and maintain the network. I feel the apprenticeship gave me an excellent insight into all the process and made this job easier and also gave me advantages to existing employees that had done this job for years.
I have developed many new skills since from learning about networks, headend, pt and even some manager duties.
I felt it was a fun and enjoyable experience that offered an amazing opportunity. It was a great way to be introduced to the industry, at times it didn’t even feel like being at work; I used to look forward to coming in to see what challenge tomorrow will bring. I liked working in teams be cause the people around were all easy to get on with and work with but also as an individual testing my own ability.
I feel like i am intregal part of the team, in my short time i hear i have moved up to a senior engineer, my opinions are often asked upon.
I felt it was organised and got the best out of the individuals, every week we knew what was expected of us.
At the time he was there when ever i needed him, just pick up the phone, sent a text or an email and would be replied back to.
I have all the relevent tools to do my job, I have people on hand if i need assistence or to talk to.
I feel I could be paid more but I believe most people will think like this, sometimes it feels like more and more is being pushed on to us and the pay is not following with the extra expectations.
I would like to progress further but it feels like walking into closed doors, opertunitys are hard to come by and some times I feel people progress not on merit of work but merit of people they know!
Yes
I feel it is an excellent service, it has the fastest bbi speeds in the uk, the tivo is an excellent peice of equipment and if ever you have a fault we try to rectify it within 48 hours.
Apply and take hold of it with both hands, it will be a fun and enjoyable learning experience that will lead to a well paid job and possible oppertunitys within the business.
