My role I have been accepted into is that of a junior software engineer. Currently I have been learning new skills for the last for weeks, and my day to day activities involve learning new programming languages and learning to use a variety of software and also leanring how to make bespoke software and test it for any errors
Before joining the Capgemini higher apprenticeship, I was at university learning Java for around 6 months before leaving due to the teaching standards. When I started the Java trek at Capgemini I found myself moving at an extremely fast pace compared to university. I learned more Java in my 2 weeks at Capgemini than my 6 months at univeristy. I felt this was because I at Capgemini I was really applying my knowledge and coding example real world programs, and their tutors were extremely helpful in making us understand the topic.
I really enjoy the program as I'm learning something new everyday! I dont find the program boring at all, as Im always learning something different and also Capgemini does provide very good support to make sure we do enjoy it.
I do feel valued by Capgemini alot, as they do put alot of effort in the apprenticeship programs and our manager visits us EVERY week to see how we are getting on and offer us support
The program is well structured and organised as each topic is split into blocks so we are always learning separate things at a time instead of everything being muddled
The support I have received from QA has been extremely good. The tutors always ask us to ask for help if we dont understand something and will go over it until we understand and can do it ourselves instead of them telling us the answer
I have recieved support from Capgemini regarding issues I have had. All it takes is an email and they always respond to offer advice and help if needed on a variety of different situations
The salary is a good salary for me, but this is because I still live at home. If I lived on my own I think the salary would be low considering costs such as rent etc.. BUT Capgemini offer one of the best apprentice salaries
We have a really good benefits system running at Capgemini that give us so many different opportunities outside of work. There are discounts across numerous different industries, you can get vouchers and assistance with all sorts of things from opticians and dentistry right through to buying a new suit etc.
Yes
Because you learn and earn at the same time. And you gain a hell of alot of experience along the way. Its the perfect opportunity to kick start your career!
The advice that I would give to anyone applying for Capgemini is to be yourself and to be confident. You have to show Capgemini you are passionate about the field, willing to learn and can work in a team!
