I did a Virgin Media Apprenticeship to make me a fully qualified service and installations technician. The role was installing and fixing all Virgin Media products, along with maintaining and improving the Virgin Media Network. It meant going to many customer's homes, speaking direct with the customer and enabling them to get the best Virgin Media service possible.
Virgin Media's apprenticeship scheme has enabled me to not only learn a whole new job role that I have not had any experience in, but has allowed me to progress throughout the business over the past 5 years. Starting as a Virgin Media technician meant I understood the customer journey, and what they expect so I can deliver the best service possible. I worked in all weathers, outside and inside, in all different kinds of environemnts, which has been great as one working day was never the same! The technical skills I gained were vast, and I got full support in learning how to do all sorts of things...from setting up telephone lines and wiring up telephone sockets, to drilling through walls to install cable! None of these things I had done previously and I felt empowered that I could do anything with the right support from the company and my own personal goals. I am currently a Logistics Manager within Virgin Media Supply Chain, and feel that the apprenticeship helped me gain the appropriate skills to move on within the company. x
The programme was very enjoyable, as I had a fantastic induction plan that gave me an insight to all aspects of the company, along with meeting lots of new people and building relationships for further development. I learnt at a suitable pace to me, and had a good mixture of working with others and independent learning.
Virgin Media really value their employees and the apprentice programme has been really successful in getting in the right people to let the business continue to grow.
The programme is very highly structured to the job role you apply for.
The support through the training provider is great as you know what areas you need to work on and submit evidence, so you can always check you are on track to complete the apprenticeship work on time. With a mixture of practical and written submissions, it means it can suit all types of learners.
Virgin Media are always supportive and will make sure you have the right foundations to succeed within the company. It is down to you to make it work, but in my experience will give you all the necessary support if you are struggling to find your feet.
The salary was great and is definitely above or on par with all other apprenticeships available. There are also great incentives working for Virgin Media, which add to the whole package you get as an employee.
Virgin Media apprenticeships do so much for charity, such as bike rides, sky diving and mountaineering. They offer not just opportunities in your career, but also 'once in a lifetime' experiences too!
