As a software engineer, I am tasked with the development and testing of software solutions. As well as working with numerous development languages, I must also work efficiently within a team, and on my own when required.
Upon beginning this apprenticeship, I had little to no understanding of coding and software development, and did not have any qualifications relating to IT; a keen interest in exploring this area spurred me into applying for the apprenticeship. Since beginning the apprenticeship, I feel that I have now gained a basic understanding, and that I am constantly progressing within this field. I am now on project, and find that working with these languages in a real world scenario provides much more self-development opportunities. I also feel comfortable working in this kind of environment already.
I am enjoying my programme, as it provides numerous opportunities to choose how and what I learn. I also feel that the work can be applied within the workplace.
Within the workplace, I am treated as any other employee, and provided with support whenever needed. This support also enables me to develop my understanding with support from others.
So far, my apprenticeship has been very well organised. I have had no issues at all.
The support provided for my apprenticeship work is ideal. I always have access to contacting my assessor, through both email and mobile phone.
I am in constant contact with my line manager, and have regular cascade calls, in which we can flag any issues in.
My salary covers absolutely everything I need on a daily basis. I have also never been out of pocket when it comes to parking at the client site, or travelling to training centres.
The company hosts events such as Christmas parties, as well as all employees being invited to the client's events also, due to the duration that the account has been standing.
Yes
So far, the company has been a pleasure to work for. The opportunities provided, and the support available, means that as an apprentice, I am given the tools to be a successful member of any team I find myself working in.
Be honest during any interview; if you have a passion for IT, any interviewer will know through how you approach the questions posed. As well as this, if you are successful, take any opportunity to further your skills; that training course that seemed uninteresting may be essential to a project!
