Spent the first year and a half rotating around different job roles in IBMs Integrated Supply Chain to gain an end to end view. I am now placed permanently working in PureSystems operations.
Gained a level 3 qualification and working towards level 4, as well as attending many job related and soft skill training courses. IBM encouraged me to do as much training as possible. Rotating around different areas also allowed me to gain a lot of experience very quickly on the job.
I have always felt like a valued employee at IBM. The apprenticeship scheme is given a lot of focus in IBM and often features in newsletters etc. Rotating around teams I was kept busy and given a lot of support by various teams, and now I have a full job role and am actively contributing to the business.
Training plans laid out from the start - Rotation system, training courses, landmarks, timelines etc. Every apprentice has a development manager as well as a task manager for support.
I have always been encouraged by IBM to attend as much training as possible, despite the expense. Having a development manager to oversee my training was key.
IBM have the same salary for all apprentices UK wide, so living in Scotland where costs are less is of benefit to me. I feel the scheme is very well paid.
IBM employees are encouraged to 'giveback' as much as possible to the community and wider IBM. I have attended numerous events both locally and Foundation-wide
