My Job role is a Project Co-ordinator in a precast concrete factory. On a day to day basis I co-ordinate the precast concrete with the Project team on site. This involves creating programmes, trackers and quality documents.
I am currently working towards a BEng in Civil Engineering and have already completed a HNC. This has been funded by Laing O'Rourke. I have also completed a number of different internal courses, development modules and have been working towards gaining a professional review.
The programme is fantastic; I have gained a lot of confidence since working here due to the attitude laing O'Rourke have towards developing people. The business is very sociable which boosts communication and team work and has a very good attitude towards Health and Safety.
From the beginning I have been given a lot of responsibility which has proven difficult but I have always had support when something has gone wrong. Good work is definitely recognised from senior management and also my own line managers.
I have never known a programme so well organised. We have got a log book with all the development days for the next five years. We also get a very detailed agenda sent to us around a month before any Module so we know exactly what to expect.
All of the people on the programme are assigned a Mentor which gives us support if we need it. However the mentor is not based in my office which makes it difficult to get a close bond. However, the support from staff who work around me are very good and will always help us back up if we fail.
The support I have received so far has been very good; my manager pushes my ability daily but he helps me to make sure I am confident in what I am doing. HR is also very good and have solved any issues I have had quickly.
My salary when I first started the programme was reasonably low, however after working here a couple of years my pay has increased dramatically. The salary is very competitive and gets reviewed every year.
Laing O'Rourke provide many social events outside of work such as Bowling, quiz's, football, rugby, volunteering opportunites and much more. I have been to many of these events and they have all been well organised and a good atmposphere.
Yes
They have been a great employer to work for so far. Everything is very well organised, HR problems are solved very quickly and they are constantly aiming to develop their employee's
I was very unsure about applying for Laing O'Rourke originally as I was unsure on the Career path I wanted to take and Laing O'Rourke are a very private business so I found it difficult to judge how they would be as an employer. However applying for Laing O'Rourke was genuinely the best choice I made, the application process is very thorough and so is the interview process. However, do not let this put you off, they just want to know that you want to push yourself and develop yourself before they invest.
