I was an Apprentice Team administrator, so my daily tasks involved, Booking Hotels, hire cars, and travel for Apprentices and managers of the team. I took minutes in meetings; I ordered uniform, tools and other bits for new Apprentices starting in the scheme. I arranged Training for the Apprentices and sent out instructions outlining what would be happening during the training. On a daily basis I was speaking to Apprentice Managers and doing tasks that I was asked to do, I was also speaking to Apprentices and answering queries and pointing them in the right direction, and I spoke to external people such as the companies that dealt with the systems to gain the Apprentices certificates and the company that arranged travel and accommodation.
For completing my apprenticeship I gained a Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration, and Key Skills Level 2 in Maths and ICT. I also completed and gained certificates in DPA, Diversity in the Workplace, and Health & Safety in the Work place. I learnt communication skills over time, such as the most professional and best way to speak to different people.
I very much enjoyed my Apprenticeship. I had very good relationships with every member of my department that I worked with. I enjoy working at Virgin Media as a whole as you get rewarded for the hard work that you do.
I feel very valued by VM as mentioned before if you do well then the company rewards you, so you feel as though any hard work you do is appreciated and noticed by others.
My Apprenticeship was very well organised, I had an Induction my first week, which was all about Virgin Media. And then my training and work was planned out through the 18 months of my Apprenticeship so I always knew where I should be and where I was. It was also organised as when I joined I knew exactly what my daily tasks/responsibilities would be.
I received a lot of support from my training provide I had a meeting nearly every 3 weeks to discuss my progress and any problems I was having, and I also was able to call my Assessor with any queries or questions.
I received a lot of support from my employer. When I struggled with my maths exam after failing the first time, my boss sat down with me and went through parts of problems that I didn't understand and helped show me ways to work things out that I understood best. When I also needed more time to work during the end of my Apprenticeship I was given 3 hours every day to work where I was not disturbed.
My salary was a very good salary for a starting point joining a business and especially what I felt was a good salary for an Apprenticeship.
There are times that I attending outside of work events, such as an Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony night, and attending events like this gave me the opportunity to meet new people in different business and it also gave me the opportunity to gain more confidence as a person.
Yes
Because I feel that Virgin Media really looks after their employees in every aspect and they really went above and beyond to support me through my Apprenticeship and first year in my role,
I would advise other people considering Apprenticeships to make sure that they career path they choose is defiantly one they want to follow, as they would be putting their time and effort into the company and their work and if they don't plan on using what they gain then its a waste of their time and a companies.
