To learn more about being a solliciter in a corporate law firm and performing small tasks similar to those that a solliciter would perform
I have developed my communication skills and learnt how to do legal tasks that I hadn't don't before
I enjoyed it when we learnt more about the profession from the trainees but found some of the tasks a bit too challenging as some were for vacation scheme students
All of the staff were very friendly and I performed tasks that helped the solliciter with their work and I didn't have any trouble at pinsent masons
It was well structured but I felt we spent too much time doing work rather than learning about the profession and working with the other work experience students
I received some support at the beginning and ends of the day but it was hard due to the fact that the trainees had huge amounts of work to do so it was hard for them to support us constantly. They were extremely friendly though.
I received many emails helping me and allowing me to contact them if I needed help and I was always encouraged to ask questions and find out more about the people that work there, their entry into law and the legal profession.
I didn't receive payment as I was on work experience so my costs exceeded my salary. However I found that the experience was invaluable because it really helped me to decide if I want to study law at university and so I believe the cost of travelling was worth it
For me I finished at 5:30 so I always had time to do things outside of work but many of the trainees could never have commitments because the hours are so long and they could be in the office all night and not go home when they are at the climax of a deal
Yes
Because it was a nice working environment and every single person was friendly and talkative so you didn't feel out of place. All of the workers were very helpful and the work was quite interesting and if you got stuck your trainee would always help you and talk you through the work. Also it is a great way of finding out more about the legal profession and deciding if you want to be a solliciter in a large corporate firm such as pinsent masons
Make sure you check your application for simple mistakes such as spelling errors and try to put yourself in the best light without being cocky. Also, try to have a job to show that you are committed and can manage your time well as that is important in the legal profession.
