I am 10 weeks into a 13 week Accelerated Learning Environment as a Software Engineer. During this period I have learnt a vast amount of information regarding IT and how Capgemini operates as a business. Not only am I learning great skills every day, but also gaining experience of Capgemini's working environment by working on real projects within the company.
So far I have learnt a vast amount of IT skills such as SQL, Data Modelling, Java, Python and also taken part in project management training to fully prepare me for the working world.
The working environment within Capgemini is very enjoyable, when I first stared I was obviously very nervous however there was no need to be. Despite being a global company with over 125,000 employees, everyone has been very friendly and welcoming. The values that Capgemini hold are evident throughout the business - be it during training or within the offices.
Despite only being an employee for 10 weeks, it is evident that they value Apprentices in the same way that they value any other employee. The opportunities available and the investment the company are making prove just how much they want us to succeed.
The programme is very well structured. An initial induction week informed me of some of the challenges that I would be facing, this has followed by the Accelerated Learning Environment where I am based in a University. Every three weeks, we diverge into the Capgemini offices where we are set projects and further training to help prepare us for the working world. I have been assigned an assessor for the apprenticeship and also a reviewer from within Capgemini. Between the other apprentices and myself, we constantly find ourselves working together as a team to reach our objectives.
Throughout the training weeks, there are two tutors always available for me. They are committed and motivated to help us reach the best of our ability. If I have any burning questions regarding the information that I have learnt then they are only an email away.
Despite maybe not seeing anyone from Capgemini for a couple of weeks, I know that any issues I have can be instantly resolved via a phone call or email.
I have my living (including three meals a day), travel and a lot of my social costs paid for. The idea is that during the first 13 weeks, I pay for very little yet I still get a salary!
There are loads of opportunities to take part in outside of the company, be it a company event/activity, sports team or any voluntary initiative that you have then the company will be happy to support you as much as possible.
