I went onsite to clients with members of the BDO Manchester Audit department to help them with their work auditing a company. I did accounts checks, completeness and existence checks and post-year-end reviews.
I have learnt more about the day to day role of an accountant and how they help in making a business grow.
I really enjoyed the work, everybody was really nice and helpful at BDO. The work was interesting and challenging and I always learnt something knew. I didn't think I would do as much as I did; it surpassed my expectations.
I got involved with the simpler tasks and I did feel valued by the members of the team that I was helping with- I felt that I could ask them questions and they always involved me by explaining the more complex aspects.
The programme was really well organised from the Induction in London to meeting the supervisor in Manchester and joining the onsite team in Alderley Edge. There is a hierarchy within the teams so I always knew who to ask for help.
I received a lot of support from everybody I came into contact with; they always helped me with the work and as a result I enjoyed it even more.
I felt like I could always ask questions without it being a problem and I would always get help.
My onsite location was chosen to be close to me which was useful and I wasn't expecting to get paid for work experience so it was a great bonus.
If I were joining the company properly it looked like there were lots of opportunities such as sport and socials.
Yes
Because they were really helpful in answering my queries before I began and I feel like that they have given me very worthwhile experience that will help me in my future career.
Don't be afraid to ask questions and get stuck into the work!
