Every day you are put in a different department where you will be supervised by a trainee currently seated in the respective department. You will be delegated work from the trainees and solicitors or possibly some pre define Work Experience Tasks. Additionally each morning (except Friday) there is a talk on a different aspect of law.
I wouldn't say that I have learnt new skills, however the Work Experience has showed me what it is like to work in a commercial law firm and the sorts of work and cases that are dealt with.
I enjoyed it very much. The other students were all very nice and fun to hang out with during the lunch hour. Everyone within the firm were welcoming and treated us with respect. Even the actual work was pretty interesting.
Fairly, as students still in college none of us know a huge amount about law and so the work set cannot be of too great importance, especially since we're not actual employees. However the work that I did do was received well with praise.
Very well organised. Weeks before the programme we were given a timetable of everything that was happening. Every day in the morning we were given a talk and then proceeded to meet our supervisors for the day to be taken to the relevant department.
A lot. With any piece of work the supervisors were happy to help with any queries. Additionally after completing most pieces of work our supervisor would sit down with us and go through it.
Enough. Although we didn't get to meet our employer, she kept in contact by email and was ready to reply to any questions that we may have had.
Unfortunately the work experience week is not paid and so we had to pay for lunch everyday (except Monday when it was provided) and travel costs
I do not really understand this question. We weren't given any sort of tasks to do outside of the office and were not given any lunch meetings to attend with other firms...
Yes
It is a helpful and comprehensive work experience programme which informed me greatly in the workings of a commercial law firm and how to go about becoming a lawyer.
Even if you are unsure of whether you want a career in law or not it is still an invaluable experience. The work required can and is done by people with no prior legal experience.
