Currently I am an ETL developer for a major electrical and gas supplier for the UK. On a daily basis I review data sent to us by the company, load it into the database once it has passed the regular checks and if mappings haven't been created for that specific set of data, me or my colleague will create them.
I have learnt Informatica, data warehousing structure, data modelling and have developed my spreadsheet skills within microsoft Excel
The work can be dull, but other times it can be challenging and stressful so overall it isn't a bad experience. The team I work with are all brilliant hard-working people. The company culture is very open and honest with an eye for successful employees.
Recently I gained my first promotion within the business where I was afforded personal recommendation from several senior managers within the business. Currently I feel very valued.
Nearly everything on capgemini's side of the apprenticeship is very well thought-out and delivered however some of the other aspects such as the QA course is lacklustre at best.
In the beginning, I gained absolutely zero support from my training provider and fell behind considerably, however with the advent of my new (current) tutor, I finished everything I was given and handed everything in on time and to a reasonable degree of expertise.
There is a support structure in place at capgemini which means that anywhere I turn, I know that I can talk to someone about what's going on, at home or at work.
Due to an unavoidable situation near the beginning of my apprenticeship, I was afforded a very bad grade. I kept my job, but it meant that I hadn't had a payrise in a year and 6 months of working with capgemini. However since my promotion I believe I should get a significant raise which should make my current costs viable.
There are dozens of events at capgemini every quarter, it's just knowing who to talk to and where to find out.
Yes
Overall capgemini is a great company to work for and I can't stress enough how good the opportunity is here.
Be assertive Don't rest on your academic knowledge, impress your interviewer with working knowledge of databases, programming languages or other necessary skills for working at an IT-centric company.
