Worked with gap-year paralegals and trainees, given admin tasks and research exercises to complete and various seminar presentations detailing information about the firm and how to work effectively for the week.
I have developed my time management skills and the ability to conduct detailed research and summarise this into a useful document. I have also improved on networking and discussing with lawyers.
The firm was extremely welcoming and I was offered enough help to complete the work to a good standard, however there were some tasks that couldn't be completed and I found myself without work to do towards the end of the day
Feedback at the end of each day was helpful and I was praised for my efforts on each task that I completed. I did feel that some of the tasks that I completed were not valuable to the team, but I understand that training is needed to complete more contentions work
The IT training was not particularly helpful, however the instructions that I received from my supervisors was informative and allowed me to complete the tasks. The timetable for the week was set out well and was clear as to what was going to take place.
Certain supervisors were much more helpful than others, I felt comfortable asking for support when needed in most circumstances and the work pacts were helpful.
I received regular emails from the provider to ensure that my placement was going well and that I knew what I was doing throughout the week.
This was not a paid placement however I did find that the food was reasonably priced and the train ticket that I purchased was also reasonable for the experience.
In a presentation I was informed of the different social activities outside of work such as netball, rugby and bowling tournaments with other leading law firms in the area.
Yes
It is a friendly firm and work experience looks good on your CV when it comes to applying for training contracts here. The work was interesting and I learnt a lot.
Ask as many questions about the different roles and processes for application. Ask for help on tasks that are difficult and make sure you get involved socially.
