  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have the job title of software engineering and am expected to compare data and also correct any faults found with the database or the views. I make and use reconciliation sheets on a project with Unilever. I also am expected to help to give feedback to the users on how to use the system properly. I get a lot of support off of my manager, who spends an awful lot of time making sure I understand things.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new technical skills including programming languages. I had 13 weeks training in Java project management, advanced SQL microsoft visual studios etc. I have also begun my Level 4 before beginning my sponsored degree. I have also learnt a lot about how to behave appropriately in the work place which was a strange transition after leaving the school I attended for 7 years

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the support network I have made. I have met so many people that I really consider my friends and could rely on for help with work situations. Also, the support which I get from my manager has helped me to settle in massively and feel a part of our team. It has been a fantastic experience so far

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Capgemini?
  • I am given recognition for work whether I have had help from my boss or not, which has helped build my confidence massively. I am also trusted to do things independently which is a great experience and makes me feel valued

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Some parts are still coming together but I think I have joined at the right time as it looks like the programme is quickly being set in stone but I still get to be a part of the discussion on what I think would make it better.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My QA reviewer at the moment is very helpful and also listens to any issues that I am having at work. Not only that, but I really trust her advice as she has been in the industry herself and been in similar situations

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is great and also there is a large number of people in my office who I would consider experts in certain technologies who are always happy to help and explain things, or give me tips to help me to do the work myself. They also take into account my needs, letting me work from home on a Friday so that I can have a full weekend at home

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Extremely well!!! With working away and being put up in hotels and having my food and travel paid for during the week, I pay a small token amount at home as it makes no sense for me to move out at the moment with living in hotels; leaving me with lots of money for clothes and social things!

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I have gotten involved in some extra stuff at work, for example, a JET scheme which is specific to Apprentices and graduates to do a project which we run and are a part of. Also, everybody I work with is social and we occasionally plan for meals etc to catch up outside of work

  • 9. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has been great so far, also, it is so much more practical than going to uni. I listen to my friends who are at uni and it makes me appreciate it even more. I have no money worries, I have already begun my career, I get to to travel up and down the country, at my age; what more could you want?

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • Be aware that you could end up miles away from home for a couple of days a week
