My role is as a Test Analyst at a Building Society's head office in Swindon. My daily tasks involve assissting my project team in any way they need me to, executing and analysing test scripts and reporting their outcomes, reporting any defects and then re-testing and fixed problems.
Before IBM, I did not have much knowledge of testing and testing cycles. Although there is still lots to learn, I feel this has given me a good insight into corporate test procedures. As a result, this has given me insight into software and how software is made and quality checked (I joined IBM more interested in hardware and networking).
Overall, I am enjoying working at IBM. There is lots to learn and plenty of challenges I am willing to overcome. My project team have been very welcoming and fits my own personal work ethic well. (That is, less chat, more concentrating). There is also a good support network at IBM and Nationwide in case I have any problems.
Honestly, I do not feel that valued by IBM but that's because I am still new to the company. Everyone has been very welcoming and supportive though. I sometimes feel, though, that I am not given work as I feel my project team doubt my technical ability (being new and an apprentice).
The Apprenticeship programme is very organsed and structure; I know who I can go to for various things like Foundation support, Administration tasks and HR. The way training is ordered and planned is very structured and allows me and my project to plan ahead.
I get a lot of support from IBM. There is a huge support network which I can contact very quickly when I need them. I also have a Personal Development Manager who I meet with/talk to who checks how I'm gettng on.

I feel the salary and benefits package offered for the Apprenticeship is adequate. I'm never left out of pocket and is very good for my budget. Most business expenses are paid to my Corporate Card so I do not incur the costs myself.
During the week, there are plenty of opportunities to get together with various IBMers and organise events. We mainly get together for dinners but other events are always an option.
