My role is to emulate a deputy manager in store. I am to aid the assistant and store managers in all of their duties and take over or control particular responsibilities if need be. I am to ensure the store runs smoothly and do everything I can to improve the store and increase sales.
I have learned management skills within a team and personal management skills. I have developed my own ability to think under pressure and adapt immediately to changing situations and still complete my requirements.
I enjoy my programme very much, I like the challenges I face on a day to day basis and enjoy having to constantly adapt to new situations. The programme has helped me develop as a person and given me a real outlook on a strict working life from a young age.
I feel valued by Aldi because they're always on top of any problems any staff member may have. They are a flexible and fair company and always put the staff needs first. There are a number of levels above me and anyone at those levels I feel very comfortable talking to and everyone is easily approachable.
The programme is well structured more now than at the start. Gradually as Aldi has grown the structure has improved vastly. I feel my progress is monitored and everyone is there to help me achieve the goal.
I receive plenty of support from my training provider, and am constantly reminded that if I have any questions that I should feel able to ask. If ever they or I feel I need to improve on an area then it is dealt with in a timely manner.
My employer helps me along with my training and makes sure I am comfortable in work. We have frequent updates about my progress or where I need to improve and a plan is always made with new targets to help me push myself.
My salary meets my costs well, it does look over you that you are earning less than others and essentially have to do more but it is all for a greater cause. Once you look at the higher picture it doesn't seem so bad.
My apprenticeship offers me a lot outside of work, it has helped me develop as a person and with the qualification I will earn, the possibilities for me are vast.
Yes
It is a good challenging working environment and always changing. You never get to the point where you are doing the same thing day in day out, and of course it pays rather well.
Come into Aldi with expectation of a challenge. Starting off is a hard job and it isn't for everyone but if you can get your head right with everything you learn there is a possibility you will end up with a very good career in the future.
