As a assistant signaling design engineer we design the signaling and associated safety equipment for new schemes as well as resignalling schemes.
We have received vast experience as well as the associated industry specific training and role specific further education.
It was a brilliant program with a great array of training including several in house training programs specific to the apprenticeship. We have also attended numerous events where we socialized with fellow colleagues and other companies and related industries.
We are always acknowledged for our achievements, hard work and dedication.
As the first of a new apprenticeship program it was initially unorganized but there was plenty of support in place. We had the opportunity to do additional courses and team building which the current program does not offer.
FCT offered plenty of support and ensured all competencies required to complete the apprenticeship was done and that we were gaining the right experience. However there were elements of the meetings that seemed unnecessary and some key skills required that was an insult to my intellect.
We have constant support from a friendly and sociable team that we meet on an occasional basis.
I completed the apprenticeship early and I was provided with a very reasonable salary.
The role is in high demand and engineering as a whole in the UK on the rise. I have the background and skills to take up numerous opportunities outside Siemens. But I like Siemens too much to leave.
Yes
They offer great training for staff at all levels and there is great packages available. But mostly it is a great atmosphere with the Siemens 'family' ethos.
Ensure that the role is right for you and that it is something you can see doing in the long term. You will be ahead of the game with an apprenticeship over fellow University students.
