I work as a warehouse person, on a day to day basis I have to unload the lorry driving the forklift, put stock away in the warehouse, load the delivery vans, count stock, serve customers, unload delivery vans when they pick up stock and maintain health and safety in the warehouse.
I have come a long way since starting here especially passing my forklift test and communication skills whilst serving customers who work in the trade.
I enjoy working with my work colleges , speaking to new people everyday, and learning what new products there are what the products do and how they work. it met my expectations well as I knew I'd feel a lot better working rather than being in a school/college.
I feel very valued by Howdens Joinery, its taught me a lot and im sure ive taught the people here who I work with a thing or two, I get a lot of praise for working in the warehouse by everyone and they really appreciate the work I put in.
Very well organized they had me starting up really quick got my induction and training was done before I knew it and I was out doing my job in the warehouse. The apprenticeship company are very good always on time/correct dates, and have also helped me to learn a lot about what I need to do.
a lot they come at least once every month to go over my paper work in order to pass my apprenticeship, they're very good at making me understand what the questions are actually asking as they are normally quite bad worded
Manager is always about to give a helping hand and also both assistant managers. I'm never afraid to ask for help as every makes it very clear they'd rather me ask for help than struggle alone.
The salary last year was alright I suppose, it could have been a lot better it seemed as if every time you go out for a weekend the money was almost all gone and I believe for the work I was doing I deserved I a bit more than the apprenticeship but since ive been took on full time its a massive difference it's great now!
Since I've been here i've been out on two events the work meal and a day out in sandringham there been plenty more opportunities I just haven't been old enough to take part. most things are 18 and above. I also got introduced to my football team that I'm playing for now.
Yes
It's a great company to work for with plenty of opportunity to move up in the depot maybe do kitchen designing, counter work, administration and its a fast growing company only getting bigger and bigger and there is so many new skills you will learn. I would also recommend it because someone like myself hates the college/school environment and its a great opportunity to see what its like in the real world of work.
If a job role is open I found the best way to apply is just call and say that you're interested and for the interview be confident and think of the sort of answers you're going to give to questions that are normally asked in an interview.
