Currently on my apprenticeship I am a developer within an agile team. This requires me to code programs in C and Java as well as constructing and conducting my own test plans. During this process I liaise with the client on a regular basis as well as my colleagues.
During the process I have enhance my coding skills as well as improving on my communication and presentation skills. My time management has improved a lot as in agile we work in iterations of 2 weeks so we constantly have deadlines to work to.
I enjoy my programme as I feel that over the 3 years I have been here I have developed both professionally and personally. I enjoy coding and the company I work for really look after their staff as well as providing a comfortable environment to work in.
Accenture are great at making every employee feel important to the company regardless of whether you are an apprentice or a executive. They make it clear that everyone is vital to the companies success and try to include everyone in everything they do. They have a recognition processes in which a range of employees receive rewards every quarter for performance. In addition to this they also have 'treat days' where if a project has been delivered successfully and on time then the company order in pizza or greggs.
In terms of my own program as I am involved in the first group of Accenture apprentices there was always going to be challenges, however the company as a whole have improved the scheme a lot for the following groups and are always going to be making slight changes to ensure the new apprentices get the best possible scheme. I have no major complaints about how my scheme is structured.
I have monthly meetings with my NVQ assessor to see how I am doing with my coursework as well as if I have any other issues at work which may need escalating. In addition to this I also have one day a week of university to attend and they tutors are always available via email should I have any issues.
My line manager is very understanding of the level I came into the company and the fact that I am still learning even though I am coming to the end of my apprenticeship. Any issues I have with regards to work or university work he is always there to back me up and give me any support I may need.
Accenture pay well in terms of apprenticeship wages. The first year is a lower salary than the 2nd/3rd year but even still its better then the apprentice minimum wage. It covers my monthly costs well.
Accenture are well known for highlighting the importance of a good work / social balance. They regularly have events which usually have free bars / free food to encourage people to expand their network. There is also a group (LIFE@) who specialise in organising out of work activities.
Yes
Accenture is a great place to work for and I really enjoy working here. I can see myself here long term as the company is always growing and there are plenty of opportunities to progress myself.
