  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The environment within Head Office is really happy, relaxed and welcoming. Everyone has really helped me settle into my new role and has made sure everything at home is going well seeing as I have moved on my own from Southampton for this job. They have been so supportive that it has made the move very easy and I feel very comfortable. The team I am working with have ensured I understand the work I am doing by having weekly one to one's with me and giving me excellent training. The job so far has exceeded my expectations as I have a lot of responsibility.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been fantastically organised. We had two induction days where we were given loads of information about the programme and got to know each other. We then had a check in day a month later where we all met up again to discuss how our time out in stores was going and what the next stages of the programme were going to be. For all the induction days the company arranged a hotel for me to stay in as well as covering the costs for the travelling to the support office. I have been placed on a six week training programme specific for my department which is helping me understand my role better. We begin college next week which runs every Thursday afternoon. The team is very well organised and I know what person is in what role and everyone has made time to help me with the work I have been set.

  • So far I have recieved excellent training from the supply trainer and my managers within the team. They have been there ready to help me when I have had any problems whether it be with work or at home. I have a great support network within my team and I feel everyone is able to help me. I am enjoying the training, especially the one to one sessions as they are very hands on and enable me to learn a lot.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager has been brilliant at supporting with work as well as my move up to the area. The HR team have made it clear I am able to contact them with any problems and that I can go to speak to them at any time which is really reassuring. The programme leader, has been a great support especially to those who have moved.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary I'm on enables me to cover all of my costs as well as having some money left over to be able to do social events. The pay is fantasic in comparison to most apprenticeship progreammes.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are loads of charity events to get involved in with Macmillian. There is also a really good social life with all the other apprentices, we tend to do stuff outside of work together. There is also a gym within the office which employees can join. Since moving to the area I have become a member of the leisure centre near my flat where I have met new people. There are a lot more events that occur but I am still settling in so I'm sure I will discover these soon!

  • 9. Would you recommend Boots to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has amazing career opportunities, great salary and you get a foundation degree all paid for. Best of all, you have a guranteed job with them at the end of the programme unlike some other companies who let apprentices go once the programme has finished. It is the best decision I have made to enable me to have a great start to a career.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boots?
  • The application is very straight forward, make sure you take your time and really think about your answers. When you have the telephone interview prepare key notes that you can have infront of you which helps you to give clear and informative answers. The assesment day is very well organised and all the interviewers are lovely. There is no need to panic because all they want is for you to be sucessful, they are not trying to catch you out! Get in touch with current apprentices to get advice as everyone will be more than happy to help, I remember how it felt!
