My job title is access planner, on a day to day basis I raise different packs for each step for the contractors onto completing an order for our customers.
I have develop my computer skills as I have to use different system types for my job. I have also develop my way of learning as I have a mentor and plenty of resource around me to help me learn.
I'm really enjoying the programme so far, we have a lot to learn still which is exciting and I enjoy being in an office based environment. The company is really positive, but could maybe have a slight more element of fun. As our office compared to others has more of a virgin feel about it.
I do feel valued by virgin as they do look after you as a staff member and also have lots of perks and fun things that they get you involved in. also feel at worth in my team.
The programme is very structured due to the time limits and work load we have to complete. I can see that there is clear objective to get us fully up to speed by the end of the apprentice, however I do think that some sections could do with more relaxed time schedules if you want to work on them more/less
both of my apprentice managers are supportive as we see them occasionally they give us guidance sheets and they are always a phone call away.
My mentors are always about to give me continuous support although they are very busy.
Although the salary is competitive among other companies, the cost of living in London is extremely high and on an apprentice salary the cost of getting to and from work takes out a large percentage. However the canteen is extremely good value for money.
There are plenty of opportunities outside of virgin if you want to get involved with events and there are plenty of charity events which scope cover. this gives a great opportunity to meet new people that work with virgin all over the country.
Yes
I have completed one apprenticeship and enjoyed it so much I have decided to do another apprenticeship with virgin! I have recommended them to friends and have even got people out of work experience last year to show them more about the apprenticeship.
The tips and advice I would have for people applying to virgin would be that the apprenticeship favours you being yourself from day one! if you show an interest and passion to learn this will shine through on a assessment day!
