In my Industrial Engineering final placement, my role consists of implementing the 5S methodology within the manufacturing shop floor and assisting in any investigations which need carried out to resolve a problem. This involves having to communicate regularly with those who work on the shop floor, the team leads and the supply chain manager.
Due to having to communicate with a lot of people, some being external suppliers, on a regular basis, communication skills are continually being improved. Being heavily involved with the 5S methodology, and having to online research on ways to implement it, this is another area in which I have improved my knowledge.
I enjoy this programme as I have a good amount of responsibility, therefore I feel like I am contributing to the department. Everyone I have came across is always willing to help in case of any questions.
I feel valued by the company as I have received internal recognition for some of the tasks I have worked on, therefore, any good work does not get unnoticed by the department.
Overall, the programme has been well structured. There were no problems working through my rotational placements. Due to the 12 week reviews with my apprenticeship manager, I am always made aware of the milestones I should be reaching and when I should be reaching them.
If required, support is always on offer from my apprenticeship manager, in terms of sorting out placements, or any other issues.
Similar to the above answer, if there are any problems, my department and placement manager are always available.
In terms of apprentice wages, I feel our current salary is suitable as it covers all of my costs.
There are constantly opportunities on offer outside of work. For example, helping out at school events and getting involved with 5-a-sides with other employees around the company.
Yes
There is a wide range of placements on offer ranging from mechanical to electrical and even to more business-type placements. By going round these placements, you get a feel of what you would enjoy more for when it comes to picking a final placement, it also allows you to see the work that gets carried out throughout the business.
Practice aptitude tests for the online tests and get along to the open day to speak to the current apprentices to get more information on the programme itself.
