General day to day tasks include fault finding and servicing on seven different sites across the North East of Scotland. Turbine types, 1.3 CS, 2.3 CS and 2.3VS.
As well as completing my apprenticeship and qualification I have been able to develop my existing team work skills which has been beneficial to me.
I enjoy my apprenticeship programme, I got the opportunity to move to Newcastle for 18 months to complete my college course and 6 basic weeks of training at the Siemens Training Centre. Not many apprenticeships would give you the opportunity to do this so I am lucky to have done this.
I feel valued by Siemens and there is always help when needed. Although I feel valued I know I must give 100% at all times and must complete my NVQ to be given the opportunity to gain a permanent position.
The apprenticeship programme is well structured. The only thing I would change would be the arrangement of certain units within the college course. Some would have been more useful in the first block of college before attending site for 6 months.
I am currently in the middle of completing my NVQ in wind turbine operation and maintenance which is run by Belfast College. Help and support is always there when needed and my assessor is only an email/phonecall away.
Help and support is always there when needed and my manager is only an email/phonecall away. Ask HR are also helpful for any other issues which need resolved.
Our salary is quite good for an apprenticeship and the opportunity for overtime is always there at site. I am in my third year and have recently moved out and my salary is well enough to do this.
There is always volunteering opportunities and company events available within Siemens and they encourage everyone to get involved in these types of events.
