I am currently studying fro my Level 3 Business and Administration at Costain House in Maidenhead. My role involves me completing task set by my apprenticeship assessor. This could be units that relate to what my job role is. I also book employees on training courses, paying for invoices, responding to emails, tracking managements P cards. In my job I interact with my colleagues in the office, I also speak to external customers over the phone.
I have learnt many skills whilst working in Costain. My communication skills have improved I can comfeterbally speak to people over the phone, email, face to face. I also know if I need to be formal or informal. I have also learnt how to use email, because I have never use this programme only for work. I have also learnt to work in a team and listen to instructions.
Working in the team I enjoy, because everyone is very friendly and as a department help each other and work well together. I also enjoy that I get to do work that is not only just my apprentice work but I also get office work which makes a difference in the department.
I enjoy working at Costain and believe they have made me feel welcome in the department I am working in. I also am happy that they give me different opportunities, such as being part of the grad scheme, visiting different offices.
The programme is very organised and structured. My line manager and me have discussed my personal and professional objectives. I have also split my days so AM I do my apprenticeship coursework and in the afternoon I do my office/role jobs. I also attended a Costain Induction when I started, this was a presentation that's talked about the business and what they did and career progression in Costain. The support I receive is amazing, my assessor and line manager keep me in the loop and we work together as a team to help me finish my NVQ. In my department, everyone in the team help me and teach me new stuff/skills. This helps build my confidence but also helps build up a strong portfolio.
My advisor is great, she is easy to contact and replies very quickly to me. She helps break down the topics making sure I understand them. She is always helping me progress and understands the support I need. Work that is set is always explained and she answers my questions in details.
My Line manager always helps me to progress, she sits in in my meetings with my assessor and we discuss my progress and what steps to take. I also have one to one meetings with her every week to discuss my progress and any help/ support I need. Work loads is manageable as I get work that can help me support my portfolio. My team are always supporting me, helping me with questions/queries. The guide me and always willing to help. The team is always friendly and make me feel very welcoming.
I think my pay is very good. I live with parents so they pay I get is spent on me. The travel to work is very quick on train as I live close by. The work shuttle bus helps as they do back and forth dropping to the station. The money I gain, is spent on myself for clothes and social. This could be watching movies with my friends, eating out. The location of the office is suitable for me as I don't live to far and is inly one train for me.
The company takes you to events that is happening, that relate to work. They are also times when you can go on site and see how other departments and sectors work. They also give you paid 2 says where you can do volunteering work for the community.
