I am a technical apprentice who will soon be at the business four days a week. Up until now I have been at college four days a week. when I come to work I will be helping with the everyday tasks of other engineers.
I am learning all about electrical engineering that will allow me to gain an NVQ and even a HND in the subject. I have also learned how to deal with people better.
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme and the people who I spend my day with (the other apprentices). it is well structured and is soon to start taking shape.
at the moment I do not feel as valued as I would like to although I believe it will change soon, as we enter the business properly.
our apprenticeship is well structured although it has been a challenge to coordinate with work when we only come in on Fridays.
We receive a lot of support from our training provider (college) as we are there four days a week. this allows us to have a large amount of interaction with them.
we receive a lot of support from our employer and other employees at the business, mainly other older apprentices.
The salary is good although travel costs are high. the location of work makes it hard for me to get here on a daily basis until I can drive. my living costs are covered by my salary also.
there are a few opportunities outside of work although they are closed off to those who cannot drive as they find it very hard to get to these events.
Yes
because it is a good place to work with a friendly atmosphere and very good employment options. although it is awkward to get to for me.
one tip is to only apply after you can drive, as if you do not live close it means you will have to travel far for college and work.
