My Role as a BIM Apprentice primarily involves the production of drawings in software such as AutoCAD, Civils3D and Revit. I will often also go out on site regularly in order to take the photos that will be used to monitor progress of the project.
I have learned many new skills in my time with Costain. The primary ones being on design software. I have also gained skills in communication with others in the project team.
I really enjoy my programme as I am able to see the project progress from my own perspective and get on great with fellow colleagues. It feels good to be part of a working project as you feel as if you are contributing to something important to modern society.
I feel a valued employee at Costain as they make sure that I have work that will help with the progress of the project. Consistent contribution makes you feel as if you area a part of the companies effort to provide a good service in the construction industry.
My programme is well structured and organised and is easily understood. I am able to work effectively on the programme and even when there is difficulty, the members of the team at Costain are always happy to help in whichever way they can.
Whenever support is required, the training provider is very good at aiding with solutions to the issues. Support is often very helpful and appreciated.
The employer is very good at making sure that you are supported in whatever you want to achieve. They care about what you want to get out of the experience very much so and ensure that it happens.
I believe that the salary is suitable for the position. However sometimes costs can be an issue depending on your situation.
Yes there are many opportunity out of work. I have had many training courses out of work that have helped to improve my knowledge of the design software used in the industry but also improving presentation skills.
