I am currently working in the Wholesale Markets and Collateral Management team, helping to manage the short term funding requirements of a multi-billion book. I provide desk support to all the traders in the team on a daily basis, along with helping other small teams with some ad-hoc queries.
I am currently studying towards the Investment Operations Certificate, which is appropriate for my role. I have attended various courses, which are run by M&G, such as an 'Introduction to Fund Management' day. I have also learnt a lot about the financial industry in general, and more specifically the markets.
The work I do is interesting and important. It can be challenging, but I am learning a lot quickly. The company is organised and the culture is great. For me, I enjoy working and talking with some of the most senior people in the business regularly.
From day one, I was treated like a regular employee which was great. Some people didn't even realise I was an apprentice. My team respect the fact that I have minimal experience, but always try to find tasks that are challenging and help me learn further. I am in a role where other members of my team rely on me, and its great to have that responsibility so soon after joining.
Very organised programme. I meet with HR every 2 months to discuss general progress and any problems I have. If I ever need help or support, there is always more than enough people I can go to ask.
I meet once a month with my tutor to discuss my progress on the apprenticeship and my exams. He helps with planning and setting targets and any queries I face.
M&G are always there to provide support for whatever I need help with. There is so many people I can ask who are more than happy to answer my questions.
Very competitive salary, which easily meets my living costs. There is a share incentive scheme which offers a good way to save as well, amongst other benefits like reduced gym memberships.
There are many classes/tutorials that anyone can sign up to, held in the auditorium. Socially, there are a few events that happen throughout the year for apprentices.
Yes
I cannot fault the scheme; it is very organised and easy to settle in. I feel lucky to be in such a unique role, where everyone treats you fairly. The apprentice programme allows you to mix with other apprentices in similar situations to you.
Research M&G and the area you are applying for. Pre plan some answers to questions you think could come up in an interview. Be yourself.
