I am currently working as a retail supply assisstant in healthcare as a 1 year placement and then will experience another rold next year. After a month in the office I already have tasks such as dealing with suppliers, working with other team members to provide information and using computer systems. I also recieve training sessions regularly and am trusted to set up promotions independently.
I have developed my IT skills as i have recived training on excel as well as Boots systems. I am also studying for a foundation degree in Business Admin, which will provide me with knowledge to support my job role. I have also improved personal skill such as organisation, communication and meeting deadlines.
I enjoy the programme as there is a good balance between spending time with the other apprentices and working within my team. There are many events planned which has helped me to feel a part of Boots and settle in quickly.
Highly valued. I have weekly meetings with my manager and am told how well i am progressing. I recieve praise for hard work and am kept well informed of company changes and activites by my team.
My programme it well organised. when joining Boots I recieved a timetable of my first 8 weeks, showing meetings and training sessions. This has helped to structure my time. I also recieve invites through email which I can monitor on my calender.
I sit with someone who gives me daily training and helps with any questions I may have. I am then given time to write up notes and practise what i have learnt. There are patentient and clear when training me. I also have training sessions where the organiser keeps in touch by email and answers any further questions I may have.
My manager checks daily that I am ok and coping with the tasks set for me.
The salary is good for me as I have never had a full time job before. Petrol costs are high however I am able to manage my wages.
It is encouraged to be involved in charity events and apprentices have the opportunity to organise some such as, cake sales. The company also runs events such as a firework night. There is also the opportunity to join the on site gym.
Yes
I think that Boots has a positive atmosphere and i enjoy coming to work. Although it is hard work i know that my efforts are appreciated.
I would advise others to keep the customer in mind during the application and interview process as this is highly important to Boots. The interview was difficult, however being well prepared enabled my to answer confidently, whcih i believe was a large factor in me getting the job. Experience in retail is highly valued and gave me alot to talk about, as well as hobbie shsowing dedication and achievement.
