  • I am a Personal Assistant. On a daily basis I manage 3 Senior Manager's diary/calendar's and look after any requests they provide me with. In addition to this I also look after the department's invoices and the processing of any admin based paperwork such as purchase orders and invoices. I also manage the meeting requests and any general requests from the IS department such as mail/parcel/payslip enquiries. I also manage the travel and event organisation of the department.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my skills in how to take constructive criticism and how to manage people. I feel my communication skills and my confidence has exceled in my time during my apprenticeship. I will gain a Level 3 NVQ in Business & Administration and so far from my apprenticeship I have really learnt how to improve myself and meet my objectives, how to manage my customer service for both internal and external customers and think about how I communicate in a business environment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The culture of the company is incredibly friendly and down to earth. I though that coming into a corporate world and looking after Senior Managers they would be hard-going and expect a lot from me. However not only in my team but the department as a whole everybody is incredibly supportive of my learning and keen to help me out and interact with me as much as possible. The culture of the company is enjoyable and although it is very relaxed they still push me and try to maximise my potential. My tutor is incredibly helpful, supportive and I feel as though I very much look up to her from a personal and professional perspective.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by M&G?
  • My line manager makes me feel incredibly important within the team and is constantly thanking and acknowledging my hard work. My line manager has already given me a lot of responsibility which I feel reflects the importance my manager makes me feel. In addition to this the senior management team have also given me a lot of responsibility and trust me with a large amount of information on their behalf. They are always recognising my hard work and constructively telling me what went well and where I can improve. In addition to this external customer's I work with are always giving me positive feedback which I feel improves my professional development within the organisation.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The ILP helps me incredibly as it ensures I meet deadlines and gives me a clear indication of how much studying I should be doing within each week. My line manager ensures I am organised and that the team structure is organised and up to date and we are constantly feeding back to each other any updates.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My tutor gives me a large amount of support ensuring that I have time in my diary dedicated to the study of my apprenticeship. She always guides me on any areas of learning or understanding I am unsure of and reads each bit of work I do in great detail and feeds back to me where she feels I had done well and any areas of improvement.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is a very generous figure for my age, however I am hoping it will go up when I roll off my apprenticeship as I have more responsibility in regards to my living costs. My car insurance is incredibly high at the moment as well as the train fare's for me to get into London so sometimes my money does not always stretch far enough for a month but I am still grateful for the salary I earn.

  • 9. Would you recommend M&G to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a friendly, hard-working and down to earth company. There are so many great opportunities within the company especially for young people

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G?
  • The company thrives itself on personality and ensuring that it's employee's maintain the friendly down-to-earth culture it inhibits. I would advise anyone applying to M&G to ensure that they are honest in the interview and show a positive and enthusiastic outlook and the willingness to learn and be proactive with their learning. My best piece of advice for the application and interview process is to do your research, really get to know the company and what you would like to do as an individual within the company. If you haven't considered why you think you would fit the role and fit the company then I think the employers will pick up on this.
