My role is in Commercial Real Estate as a Portfolio Manager, working for a Relationship Manager, to oversee the more administrative side of the portfolio. This includes tasks such as account openings and closing, delaing with the daily excesses, drawing down loans, processing items of security and producing documents. I also have lots of customer communications on a day to day basis - both via phone and email.
I have developed my maths skills, as I have been using them seriously for the first time since GCSE. I have grown in confidence through communicating with customers on a day to day basis and being part of a team. I have learnt more about the banking environment as a whole, particualarly focussing on real estate.
I thouroughly enjoy my programme, both the apprenticeship learning and the day to day job role within the office. I find the coursework and exam content interesting and I get a high level of job satisfaction from my role as a Portfolio Manager.
I feel very valued by the team that I work with and the wider RBS team in general. I always get feedback of my work from my colleagues and they also like to keep updated with my progress and how I'm finding the job. I also feel like I have been really well supported by my BPP advisor [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions].
I feel like the day to day job is really well structured hwoever the BPP learning part was a little disorganised to begin with. This seems to have improved in recent weeks with resources being more accessible and communication being quicker.
I recieve good support from my training provider, especially my BPP asessor Linette who always makes plenty of tiemf or our monthly one to one sessions and gives great feedback. I sometimes feel like the RBSAPP email site can be a little slow to respond and this can be frustrating at times but they are generally helpful in assisting when they do reply.
I recieve a lot of support from my employer. I always have monthly progress reviews relatign to my apprenticehsip programme as well as potentially more frequent check ins with the senior portfolio manager. I also get support from the other protfolio managers and the RM who I work with.
My salary enables me to meet all my outgoings, save and spend some money too. My only concern would be if the price to travel increased considerably.
RBS likes to encourage the teams to get together socially occassionally, in order to get the teams to bond as a unit. They also direct us to events such as Sport Relief and encourage involvement with programmes such as Focussed Women and Inspiring the Future. I would like it if BPP were able to link the apprentices more effectively as most of the contact I've had with other apprentices has been initiated by us.
Yes
It is a positive working environment which values its employees and seems keen to help people grow and develop. Majority of the staff I have encountered have been friendly and helpful which speaks highly of the staff being happy and knowledgable.
To be confident as this is a big part of any job role within the bank as you will be dealing with customers or teams of colleagues. Research the company as it has a really interesting history. Be yourself and be happy.
