My role is based in commercial coverage training to be an assistant relationship manager. Training to be an assitant relationship manager involves me dealing with customer queries (answering phones / emailing) on a day to day basis, dealing with account openings, credit cards etc, going out to meetings with managers to meet customers, organising events and taking on new roles and responsibilities.
I have learnt many new skills and I have also developed existing skills. The job is very customer focused, before my apprenticeship I worked in a pub for 3 years which was also customer focused meaning I had the skills to deal with customers but I have definitly developed this skill since being here. My new skills are things such as working in a team, computer based skills, being able to work under pressure and they are just a few examples.
I love my programme - I think it really helps that I have been matched to such a good team. I picked the apprenticehsip over university because I wanted to start earning money and wasn't too keen on univeristy been all about education and exams. I have always wondered whether I would have regretted this decision due to my friends all being at uni but it has been the best decision.
I feel very valued, some apprenticships you can just be there for cheap labour - to everyones dirty work and to make coffee and tea. With RBS and the programme I am on i genuinely feel that my work is valued amd appreciated and that I am going to go far.
At first it came across that my programme wasn't actually that organised.. there wasn't that much for me to do and people didn't really know what to do with me. It was also a mix up to when my exams etc would be and nobody really knew. Now that a few months have gone by it seems to be organised and structured.
I think that the training provider has been pretty rubbish in my eyes. I think that it is good that we have a one to one with someone from BPP and we can tell them if we have any problems etc but I think the webinars provided are absolute rubbish and a waste of time. These webinars are meant to teach us for our exam. However I do think the VLE they provide even though there is mistakes is good.
I recieve a lot of support from my employer - if I am ever stuck on anything ther eis multiple around me and not just even on my team that are there to provide support and answers. I have never felt scared to ask a question. We have internal training days for the apprentices each based on different things to help us learn and I have found this very beneficial.
I think that my salary and package for an apprentice is really good. I didn't actually expect that I would be on this much money and for the moment while I am young it is perfect to my living.
Yes there is many opportunties outside of work with charities, team days out, coporate events.
Yes
I couldn't have asked for a better apprenticehsip and I have in fact recommended it to one of my friends already. I love working and I also get to gain a qualification.
I would recommend that if you apply and get an interview make sure you are prepared. The interviews are not easy and you have to put work in - so if you really want an apprenticeship with RBS then make sure you have done the research etc.
