  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I think the major skill that I have learnt / improved is my confidence when dealing with people outside of the organisation. I have also notably improved my knowledge of the banking sector through the learning part of my apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship programme so far (4 months in). The people I work with have supported me throughout and take the time out to help me if I have any issues and in the same way leave me to get on with some work independently which gives a higher sense of responsibility. I have learned things on the programme that I would not have had I stayed at school.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I feel valued at RBS as you are treated as any other employee despite maybe being younger and less experienced. They are in a preliminary process of organising an event for apprentices which therefore shows the value that they hold for people like myself.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was clearly described at the two day induction all new apprentices attended before we joined the bank. In terms of my learning and exams this has been organised fairly well and there is always a contact you can get in touch with if you have any queries.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As stated in the last answer the training provider are fairly quick in responding to any queries you maye have and there is a dedicated email address for the RBS apprenticeship scheme. There are some issues with the material provided to study from however these can be resolved.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In terms of my day job my line manager is always available to support me and sets time aside on a weekly basis to have a 1:1 catch up which is useful to air any issues I may have.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel as though my salary is very competitive in relation to similar schemes in the sector. The main cost for myself is travel which is a slight burden as it does take a fair chunk out of my monthly wage.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There have been many opportunities and invites to join social committees and attend seminars with different firms which has been good for myself so that I can take part in other activities outside of my day job.

    8/10

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend RBS to a friend because you recieve on the job experience in a highly competitive sector. As well as this the values that the company holds make it a very pleasent place to work. As mentioned previously the office is a great place to help a young person like myself understand what the workplace is like, something you do not get from school.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • When applying be yourself and enjoy the experience of interviewing etc. as even if you do not get offered a role you have still gained experience. Not so much when applying but when starting a role, make sure you ask lots of questions.
