I work in the asset finance branch of RBS called Lombard. We fund any tangible asset that a business may need. My day to day role is supporting the Relationship mangers in processing deals. This can range from quoting, producing documents, dealing with customer queries and even accompanying Relationship Mangers to customer visits.
So far I have learnt skills in all the bespoke systems Lombard use as well skills in Outlook, Excel and telephone manner. I have also picked up various soft skills and impersonal skills working in such an environment.
I am really enjoying the programme so far as it can very challenging at times but everyone is very helpful and supportive.
I feel very valued at RBS and I am surprised how much responsibility they give you from the start.
The programme is well structured and is very clearly laid out. You are given a timetable of your online lessons so you know when your deadlines are, you can then balance this around your day job.
I have not started the training sessions as of yet but so far my training provider have been very supportive in the enrolment process.
I have received a lot of support from RBS and they are very keen for you to succeed. My line manger is great and makes sure I am always supported.
There are various opportunities outside work. I have joined the Young Banker association and they have regular events that can benefit you.

RBS offers great opportunities and career progression. The bank is so large that there are endless paths you can go down.
Make sure you do a little research on the industry first and the role you’re applying for ideally. Also RBS are big on their values, so make sure you know what they are before your interview (can find them on the website). In your interview make sure you demonstrate your knowledge of these and examples of how you’ve demonstrated them.
