  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a Relationship Team officer. I am supporting Relationship Managers/ Assistant Relationship Managers on a day-to-day basis through admin and assistance duties e.g. creating meeting briefs, phoning customers, sending out seminar invites, attending events, filing, post, dealing with one card enquires and sending out customer letters ( and many more duties).

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills throughout the duration of my apprenticeship. I have learnt the importance of team work - however have also learnt how important it is working independently. Going from college to full time work (via apprenticeship) was very challenging however it has taught me to work off my own initiative and trust my self whilst doing jobs/tasks.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme, although I sometimes find it challenging. I feel it is a perfect starting point to getting me to where i want to be in respect of my career and earning at the same time is certainly very rewarding and gives me that extra bit of motivation!

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • Rbs make me feel very valued. If I do a job in a particularly good way or they seem to think that I have done something impressive, they will let me know and let other employees know. E.g. I dealt with a fraud email in a very cautions way and once my line manager had found out an email was sent round to all employees congratulation me on the way I went around the situation - which I felt was very rewarding.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Rbs are very organised and provide me with all the job training. My colleagues are also very supportive and are always helping me with what I need. However my learning provider (BPP) is not as organised e.g. I only found out the date of my exam 3 weeks before I was due to sit it.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Not a lot. I have not heard from by BPP assessor since December 2015 and have been told that my old assessor has now quit and my new assessor is being trained up which is the reason as to why I have not heard from him yet. I feel more support would be better particularly whilst my exam is upcoming but don’t seem to be getting much response from BPP at the minute.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is extremely supportive. I have been allocated a mentor (another colleague from RBS) who answers any of my queries and helps me whenever I am struggling with something. My mentor also helps me prepare for my exam by testing me and allowing me allocated time during work to study. RBS are extremely good at supporting me and I can not fault them at all.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The RBS apprenticeship has a fantastic pay package which enables me to pay for all my bills and have money left at the end of the month for my own use. RBS also offers a pension scheme which is great as it allows me the option to start saving towards my pension at a young age - however I also like the fact that the pension is optional.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes there are many opportunities outside of work. RBS hold many charity events and networking events. In December 2015 I attended a networking event with my colleagues which provided me with the opportunity to meet other colleagues from the bank but to also meet some of the customers I had spoken to before over the telephone.

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would certainly recommend RBS to a friend. I have always felt that apprenticeships are a great alternative to university or college however I feel RBS really do value their apprentices and genuinely want them to success and progress through the company. RBS invest a lot of time, effort and money into their apprentices.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Ensure you fully understand what you are applying for before submitting your C.V. Also I would advise (if RBS accept your C.V and you make it through to the interview) to fully prepare! Ensure you know about RBS history and also your job details. Make sure you are making the right decision, apprenticeships are a lot different to college and university.
