My day to day job role as an Access Planner involves planning job for businesses to connect them to the Virgin Media network. This also includes responding to emails, making phone calls, keeping records up to date, and daily meetings. Daily interaction includes speaking with other virgin media employees, but also contractors and others outside of the business.
As part of my apprenticeship I have received on the job training, as well as completing a BTEC qualification and key skills exams. Also whilst completing day to day duties I have learnt interpersonal skills from talking to various people.
I really enjoy the programme, everyone is helpful and no day is the same. This provides a challenge but also makes the programme interesting and provides me with a great skill set for now and into the future.
I feel valued as part of Virgin media. Everybody gets recognition for their part they play in the team, for example helping to meet targets.
The programme is well structured. Any help needed is given, and guidance is always there when required. Everyone works as a team and are willing to help anyone that needs it. Sometimes helping somebody else actually makes you feel more confident within yourself, and can further improve knowledge all round.
We have weekly study days with the training provider. They are always available on the end of the phone or by email if needed. Nothing is too much trouble and they have a very positive attitude.
The whole team provides support if needed. Whether it be our manager, my own mentor or another apprentice. Everyone has a positive attitude and access to help or guidance with problems is always available.
Because I live 30 miles away this means a 60 mile round trip. This can be quite expensive whilst on the apprentice wage. I am lucky enough to car share with another apprentice but for others this could cause problems financially.
There are conferences and events throughout the year. As part of Virgin Media there are discounts at certain places for example virgin active gyms.
Yes
Virgin media has great opportunities. There are many new skills that can be learnt, and also a fair salary.
Always be open and honest. Be confident and show a willingness to learn new skills.
