  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My interpersonal communication skills has improved drastically alongside my telephone manner, this is due to having many meetings over the phone and also face to face. Alongside this, I've recently been on a Java fundamentals programming course which has helped me learn a new programming language, which I shall be using later on in my day to day role to complete coursework units.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I feel valued by RBS as a whole as I've personally seen the work I've contributed towards has affected internal colleagues, which helps improve the service we provide to our customers. I've also received praise for the work I've taken part in which helps show how each and every colleague is valued within the organisation.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At the beginning of the programme, I felt that it hadn't been structured too well, this was to do with the QA side of things. The training courses had not been scheduled until nearly 3 months into the apprenticeship, this was because of clashes with RBS events. Since then, the organisation/structure of the programme has greatly improved.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • At the beginning of the programme, the support I was given from my training provider wasn't the greatest, this was due to slow communication / lack of it. Since these teething issues, the support I receive from the training provider has greatly improved. I now know who I can contact if I need support from my training provider.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I receive from my employer is beyond fantastic. I have a weekly one-to-one meeting with my line manager to cover the work I've been doing as well as any support that I may require. As well as this one-to-one meeting, I also have a weekly team meeting where we cover all the work everyone has been doing since the last weekly meeting.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel the salary and the package provided alongside it provides me with the finances I need to survive on a monthly basis, with enough left over for savings. RBS provide an extremely competitive salary package for apprentices and is a very good point to attract new apprentices. This package also motivates apprentices to work to their best abilities.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many RBS events outside of work hours which provide a great opportunity to employees. Examples of these are the Youth Banker's Association which provides events with influential speakers as well as provider great networking opportunities to meet other young employees within the organisation. The london apprentices from different business sectors also organise events to builder a greater community within the bank.

Your team is also very supportive and can help with any difficulties you may be having in the role.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • The advice I would give to others applying for RBS is to be yourself and be motivated. The key attribute RBS is looking for is young people who are motivated to succeed in their career and to be willing to learn as many new things to help the bank move towards reaching their targets.
