I am a headend engineer, providing bandwidth for expansion in the telecommunications network and helping the company grow, by providing new fibre and RF routes out into the field.
I have worked through a HNC course and learnt about subjects such as networking and computing systems... As well as passing a SCTE course
Very much, as I feel part of the team from the start and have constant support when needed by the people around me
I feel as though I am part of the future of Virgin Media, as I am recognised constantly from managers and involved in anything by being given responsibilities that reflect my work.
All support and training is well structured, and the learning side of things is well done aswell, with deadlines set constantly to keep me up to date with assignments
I receive support when needed from my training manager, although sometimes more information is required which we need to find ourselves. Which is beneficial to us as we learn new things this way.
My team within Virgin Media are very helpful, as I feel I can ask my manager or mentor anything and find the answers I need, without feeling uncomfortable when asking, I am constantly involved in engagement and meeting events and any time needed for study is happily given. I don't get too much support from my apprentice manager when needed though, as we didn't interact too often, when I was required to ask something off him, it wasn't always as easy as speaking to my full time manager and mentor.
Everything we need is covered with a company car for travelling, and the salary I receive is very good for an apprenticeship.
We have regular engagement activities such as golf days, go karting and paintballing, as well as socialising for christmas and we get one day of voluntary work per year. The holidays we receive are very flexible and ore can be purchased if required.
Yes
I always feel valued and part of the big picture in the company, and everybody is made to feel welcome when coming to work.
Be yourself in interviews as they are enjoyable and want to see your true personality. Be prepared to do something different on assessment days with different and enjoyable activities being provided and enjoy it!
