I am an Access Network Engineer. My role involves the on going maintenance of the Virgin Media broadband network. My day to day activities involve riding out to fix faults with the network and installing equipment for new customers.
I have learnt many new skills while on this apprenticeship. The position with Virgin media is very specific to certain subset of technology and my skills with using, and knowledge of this technology has increased. Also while many parts of the role are very specific some things are not and skills I already possessed have been improved upon. Such as my general IT skills.
I enjoy the apprenticeship greatly. I find that I am both constantly challenged and engaged in learning with this apprenticeship.
I feel very valued at Virgin Media. My colleagues have been a great help to me over the past months. The benefits of the position including wage suggest to me that I am a very valued member of the team and that I will hopefully be even more in the future when my skills are further developed
The program is fairly well structured and organised. However it would appear I am part of the first group to be on this specific course and that means there is often some uncertainty with certain aspects of the course or position. Also as I have a Manager an Apprentice Manager and a Head Trainer communication between the three groups can be troublesome at times. However, any issues that arise are often dealt with fairly quickly and an attempt at communication is usually always made.
I receive a lot of support from Virgin Media as a training provider. I have support from my colleagues and my mentor which provides me with the majority of my day to day knowledge and progression. The dedicated training that is provided by Virgin Media at their training facilities is also excellently structured and organised. I feel like I can reach out to my Trainer should I Have any issues and I will be helped accordingly.
My employer is my training provider for this course and Virgin Media provides a lot of support. I feel there are many people I could reach out for specific support should any issue arise.
My salary and benefits package meets my costs very well. The pay is exceptionally generous for an apprenticeship and the list of benefits is long and generous.
There are many opportunities outside of work directly. Virgin Media is very involved with its charity partner Scope and there are often opportunities to raise money in and around work. Virgin media also offers access to additional qualifications that are not necessarily directly related to your position with the company
Yes
I would recommend Virgin Media to a friend because the company is incredibly employer focused. I enjoy working for Virgin Media primarily as I'm very interested in the field I am working in. However, as a company virgin has treated me very well, with quality dedicated training and a very generous pay and benefits package.
I would advise anyone wishing to apply for a position at Virgin Media to understand the priority which Virgin Media places on their 6 values and how much stock they place in Richard Branson's ideology that happy employers means happy customers.
