As a logistics assistant my job is to help the department i'm working on run smoothly. For example in my last department I helped move the potatoes and flowers into the lanes on a electric truck. Then I would put cards on pallets to say they were ready to be taken, I would also put new stock into the vending machines roughly every hour. The activities I do depend on what department i'm working with.
I have learnt about health and safety with things such as what colours on a fire extinguisher mean and what to do if somebody is injured. I also learnt how to use spreadsheets and other management software that I had not used before.
I change departments every month so that means I get to do lots of different things and work with different people. The work does get repetitive at times as I often do the same things every day at the exact same time. Most of the managers are happy to show me what to do and help me if I get stuck, some don't but they are often too busy to help. I don't particularly enjoy work but I feel like the reward at the end of the apprenticeship is worth it.
When I finish working with a department the managers have always thanked me for my help. I feel like a pretty normal person and don't feel special or under appreciated.
When I first started I was given a tour and walk around by the manager and he explained how everything worked and he was happy to answer any questions we had. We were given a work booklet and our manager talked us through the book, it explained how everything worked and gave a lot of useful tips. I have a schedule for the entire duration of the apprenticeship and know exactly which department I will be in at any time.
I feel like there is support if I ever needed it, the training provider is quite happy to take questions and answer them. There is a phone number and email that I can contact if I need help with anything.
The manager in charge of the apprenticeship is happy to help if I have any problems.
I am happy with the wages for an apprenticeship as it pays much better than most other companies. I have enough to pay for a car and enough to save up for paying rent in the future. I do feel that it is unfair that I earn much less than most of the staff as I do the same tasks that they do and am expected to complete them to the same standard. The location (Neston) is easy to get to by car but the bus service isn't great and there arnt many routes.
There is a website that provides benefits such as a bike to work scheme and offers discounts to gyms. I am unaware of any activities outside of work or working in the local community.
Yes
They pay well and there is opportunities to advance and progress. Most of the staff are friendly and work hard. The training is also well organised.
The work is hard but you receive good money for this, if you work well then you can advance up the ladder. Also you may have to work very long hours if it is a busy time (Christmas, Easter etc...)
