My role is an office and community relations admin assistant. this job role involves assisting the office manager with the managing of the facilities i.e. making sure the office is safe from harm. I am also the office receptionist so I have to meet and greet visitors. when I am on the community relations I have to deal with the community at events such as careers fairs, I have to deal with complaints and I also get land access for our work sites. everyday in the office I have to make sure that the stationery supplies are full and everything is running smoothly.
the main new skill I have learnt is how to be professional when dealing with customers. I have learnt how to use computer software and expanded my skills within organisation and management.
I really enjoy the apprenticeship programme my apprenticeship assessor is very helpful. the team I work with are very understanding and considerate when giving me tasks. my mentor is always on hand to help me with personal and professional issues.
within Costain I am a very valued employee, my managers treat me as if I am at operative level and not an apprentice. this has allowed me to gain confidence and I feel empowered to achieve.
In the beginning my apprenticeship was not that structured but now I am fully embedded into the programme it has fallen into place and I have a clear action plan with the units I am to complete each month.
I have visits from my apprenticeship provider every 4-6 weeks and she will always answer my emails or phone calls if I require help.
I received a lot of help from my managers and others in the office with my units. I am given 6 hours a week to do my apprenticeship work. I also receive some help and guidance from the apprenticeship team in head office.
My salary is extremely good reflection of the work I am expected to do each month. this salary meets my costs of personal bills with enough for social costs each month.
Within my work we have a social committee which allows every employee to socialise with each other. also Costain offer every employee 2 volunteering days a year and these are to be used on group activities that are close to our community.
Yes
I would recommend Costain to a friend because since I joined I have excelled and become a professional ambitious young woman. I used to be quiet and since joining costain my confidence has improved and I am now trying things I never thought I would.
when applying to Costain I would say just be yourself we offer a very diverse company and we are extremely adaptable to you skills set. be confident be bold be different this gets you remembered.
