I am an multi skilled engineering apprentice, meaning that I am training to be both mechanically and electrically skilled. On a day to day basis I shadow other technicians, helping with the weekly maintenance and machinery breakdowns.
I have learnt a number of new skills from the theoretical side at college as well as the practical side from work.
I thoroughly enjoy the apprenticeship program, I particularly enjoy learning new skills whilst working at the same time.
I feel valued at GlaxoSmithKline, I have been assigned a number of projects which have been left to me to design, build and implement.
The program has a good structure. As an engineering apprentice we spend around 3-4 months in each specific area of the factory in order to understand all of the different machinery.
I receive lots of support from my training provider, whilst at college the lectures are more than willing to help with any questions. Also whilst at work I receive lots of support from whoever I am working with. I also receive support from my mentor who helps organize training as well as helping me with any questions I have.
I receive quite a lot of support from my employer, financially they cover all of my travel costs to and from college, as well as anywhere else i need to travel to with work. There are also a number of departments on and off site which offer support financially and regarding occupational health.
My salary meets all of my costs, due to the fact that the company covers all of my travel costs.
There are a number of training courses offered outside of work which I have been enrolled on to help further my knowledge.
Yes
They have helped me acquire a number of skills whilst at work and college. As well as developing me as a person.
