my day to day role is to support the IT systems our scientists use to control scientific equipment. I also like to branch out into other areas of IT to pursue more experience in project management.
Personal and professional development are definitely the biggest developments I've gained from working at GSK which are crucial skills to gain if you wish to achieve managerial level or above. Both my technical skills and project management skills have been exceedingly improved over the past few years which now gives me a more broad vision of which path I wish to take.
The people at GSK are brilliant and everyday is different. I could quite easily wake up on a Saturday morning and feel okay about going into work. I do genuinely really enjoy working at GSK.
Very valuable. Some of the projects I have run and been involved in have made a massive difference at the appreciation and recognition you receive when you do a good job proves that you feel valuable to the overall success of GSK.
Quite well organised. Some of the apprenticeship assessors can be a bit slow with marking but the overall structure of the course is good.
As said in question 5 the support fluctuates. One minute there will be little support where it can take some time for them to reply or mark work and other times they're great and get back to you within the day.
A lot of support! The employees at GSK are really supportive of which path you wish to take and what you want to be involved in. If you seem keen and tell people that you are interested in something then they will help you to be apart of that.
The salary is very good for an apprenticeship and this increases every 6 months so you're always gaining more. If you're having to travel with GSK to another site other than your base site then its all paid for by the company. Socialising costs depends obviously on where you're based but it's quite cheap.
With London just a 20 minute direct train from the Stevenage site as an example it means there is lots to do. There is a leisure park with an IMAX cinema, Clubs, Bowling alley, Arcades, plenty of restaurants and that's just within Stevenage. There are more physical activities to do such as skiing in Milton Keynes and Hemel Hempstead which are about 30 minutes away. Plenty of gyms as well to choose from with great prices!
Yes
it's a very energising place to work. You feel motivated and genuinely want to do your work as you know you're working towards a good cause of researching new developments for healthcare.
Say yes to every opportunity. No matter whether what the salary is, the amount of holiday you get, if you think its going to develop you new valuable skills then take it. Be confident and ensure you go into something you enjoy. I have an genuinely really enjoy my day to day job.
